Personal Statement
I became involved in community service as a child working at soup kitchens and participating in occasional park clean ups. It wasn't until I started attending the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, that I became more passionate about giving back to the community. Being involved in projects where we made care packages for the homeless, held a field day for the youth in the local community, and donating food to families in need during the holidays, was nothing short of amazing. Building ramps for individuals who are now wheelchair bound, as well as renovations to historic cemeteries, touched my heart in a way that has allowed me to appreciate community service differently. As the president of the Honors Student Association, it's an honor for me to say that we are an organization that encourage students to motivate and empower the youth of the Princess Anne community so that they may rise above the stereotype of low-income families, by graduating high school and seeking higher education.
