Personal Statement
As a student in political science and environmental studies, my interests lie in the intersection between the environment and justice. My concern for justice overarches everything that I do in the public sector as well, and my experiences have not only taught me how to see injustice in my community, but how to apply my skills and leadership abilities to make positive, tangible change. From my first year in MontPIRG on the Save the Smith River campaign where we defended a blue-ribbon trout stream from corporate exploitation, all of my paths have led me towards justice. Volunteering on urban, organic farms that provide sustainable food for low-income families has inspired me to continue my work in environmental advocacy in the agricultural sector. Engaging in local politics to elect more progressive women, expand the rights of voters and renters, and secure state funding for health care and higher education has taught me how important the law is, and how much I enjoy the process. My goal is to continue this fight for justice as a federal antitrust lawyer making the agricultural sector competitive through challenging the mergers and federal farm subsidies that have consolidated power and wealth in this industry.
