Daizha Green

University of South Carolina

Daizha Green, an early childhood major at the University of South Carolina, is a student leader active in addressing issues of social justice and racial equity in education. She has worked closely with elementary school students to research the histories of statehouse monuments, uncovering racist underpinnings then helping the students write letters to legislators to express their knowledge and concern.
As a co-founder and current president of the executive board of the student organization, REACH (Race, Equity, and Advocacy in Childhood Education), Daizha demonstrates exceptional social justice leadership as she supports the group of undergraduate majors in early childhood and elementary education to deepen knowledge and learn strategies for creating inclusive classrooms.

Personal Statement

As an early childhood education major, I am committed to developing innovative and collaborative approaches that will lead to more equitable educational experiences for young children. I am a founding member and president of the only University of South Carolina College of Education-sponsored student organization focusing on issues of race and racism, REACH (Race, Equity, and Advocacy in Childhood Education). The goal of the organization is to help undergraduate majors in early childhood and elementary education deepen their knowledge, confront their biases, and learn strategies for antiracist work in the classroom. Our organization works towards achieving its goal by exploring issues of pedagogical discrimination and teaching how to dismantle and replace those practices with equity. Ultimately, my goal is to establish a learning center that applies an intergenerational approach to improving the lives of socially marginalized families. It will be a state of the art facility that provides science, technology, art, engineering, math and literacy exploration for children, while offering classes on financial literacy, health, wellness and political literacy for adults.
