Zachary Bolster
University of New HampshireZac Bolster, a senior in the Athletic Training program at UNH, is an active student leader. Considering that he managed his advanced course load and extensive clinical hours while maintaining a 3.68 GPA, the fact that he has time for community service is an accomplishment in itself. However, Zac's enthusiasm and compassion are what really make Zac shine.
Zac has been involved in community service from the moment he stepped on campus. Zac participated in PrOVES, our community service program for incoming first-year students, and from there went on to serve as student staff for the program, helping incoming students navigate the transition to college life while engaging with their new Seacoast community. Zac also served as Chair for the Intellectual Pursuits for the Student Athletic Training Organization. In this position, Zac organized and led many community service programs in the local Durham area.
Zac is the hardest worker on any volunteer site. He is willing to complete any job with an infectious and pure desire to help. Zac was also a silent leader, quietly taking care of any issues and solving problems before they even occurred. Zac inspires other students to engage with their community, working together to make it a better place for everyone. He has contributed to the sustainability of community service efforts on this campus through the students he engaged in this work. Zac is an ideal representation of the university and its desire to produce citizens who consider community service to be part of their everyday life.
Personal Statement
Growing up in a military family, I learned the benefit of helping others for a greater good at a very young age. My father and mother would go above and beyond their call of duty to ensure the safety, needs, and expectations were met, if not surpassed, by all those who resided under my father's command. Seeing how great an individual can become from selflessness action served as a guiding light to me, and how I wished to model myself towards others. During my time at the University of New Hampshire, I have been actively involved in multiple community service events. One such event that I am very honored to be associated with includes a weeklong volunteering experience for incoming first years to the university titled PrOVES. Involved for three years, I have had the opportunity to be a staff member, and take an active part in leading first year students at different volunteering sites around the greater Portsmouth area in New Hampshire. Additionally, I have been actively involved in my major's campus association, titled the Student Athletic Trainers Organization. Serving as the "Intellectual Pursuit" chair, I've had the privilege to lead multiple fundraising campaigns that involve community service works to local residences of the Durham community to help raise money to fund student members to attend the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association Conference this past January. Additionally, I have volunteered at multiple alumni, fundraising, and charitable sporting events, offering medical assistances to the athletes involved in the events.
Graduating this semester, my college life has quickly begun to replay before my eyes the closer the month of May approaches. I hope that my impact on my college and its community has been as influential as it has been for me. This connection has developed my leadership in such a brilliant way, which I hope to continue to grow and practice in my next chapter following college.
