Personal Statement

I was able to find my passion for service working with children in a battered woman's shelter and through many projects I participated in through Boy Scouts. It was through these activities that I realized the difference that I could make in my community. Now as a college student the opportunities to lead through service are boundless, and I have been able to participate in projects such as the Sigma Pi Ace Project, Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, and as a mentor in the Emerging Leaders Program. As current service chairman of the Pierre Laclede Honors College, I am responsible for sponsoring Stray Rescue, a local animal shelter, and working to find innovative ways to raise donations through social events that enable other students to give back to the community as well. My experience in college has expanded my skill set as a service member and leader. I believe that the best way for me to serve my community is through not only immersing myself in my community, but by encouraging my peers to engage themselves in the community as well.
