Drake Ingram

University of La Verne

Drake Ingram, a third-year student at the University of La Verne, is an engaged student leader inspiring the broader community through his advocacy for black students and the promotion, empowerment and exploration of the Black Excellence experience. He currently serves as the President for the Brothers Forum Club on campus that focuses on service and support for black men through their educational journey, and he is a member of La Verne’s Black Student Union to help recreate, rebuild, renew and promote Black Excellence campus wide. Drake models the kind of social justice advocacy and community commitment that goes beyond service to seek long-term solutions to issues that touch broad sectors of the community and reflect the values of the University of La Verne.

Personal Statement

Growing up, I’ve always been charitable and insistent on helping others. Volunteering has always made me feel better. During my first year, I was exposed to the Critical Race Theory concept, and it uncovered the historical implications of government oppression of minorities through divide and conquer. After this learning experience, a classmate introduced me to the Brothers Forum. I began meeting more students and engaging with other student clubs, which led me to become the President of Brothers Forum to continue encouraging Black Excellence. I do my best to encourage diversity and promote inclusive spaces among the campus community to influence collaborative support and the creation of a meaningful community.
