Personal Statement

I have long been motivated to be a servant leader- a person who leads by example and makes a positive impact in my community. I first attended USCB in 2011 and that summer I worked at the local YMCA because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children. In January of 2014, I joined the U.S. Navy to serve my country and continued to learn more about being a servant leader. After my military service, I returned home to Beaufort to continue my education at USCB. Once again I worked part-time at the YMCA to mentor youth. As a student, I have been very active on campus in my fraternity, Delta Chi, and also USCB's Rotaract Club. I joined these organizations because of their strong commitments to civic engagement, leadership development and community service. Currently, I am USCB's Civic and Community Engagement Coordinator. In this role, I am planning, implementing and evaluating service events for fellow students. As I reflect on my educational path, I realize a continuous thread of servant-leadership is an essential part of who I am. I am honored to be nominated as a Newman Civic Fellow.
