Personal Statement

As a nursing student at UMass Dartmouth my passion has been to actively lead the charge to address the issue of opioid addiction recovery planning and to pursue a Doctorate in Nursing specializing in addiction. For the last two years, I have worked to establish a Young People in Recovery chapter on campus with activities that have included, workshops and training, movie screenings and keynote events, as well as a signature "Steps Towards Recovery" awareness event in collaboration with the Bristol County District Attorney's Office , the Town of Dartmouth, LiveWell: The Office of Health Education, Promotion, & Wellness, and Nurses to Prevent Opioid Abuse. I was honored when the campus chapter of Young People in Recovery received the 2016 received the "Break Out Chapter of the Year Award" from Young People in Recovery National Leadership Conference in recognition of our efforts. I am committed to public health - locally, nationally, and internationally. I have participated in the Student Nurses Association and Global Health Collaborative; the College of Nursing's study abroad program to Haiti where I worked in various clinical settings operated by Partners in Development and have completed a two-year commitment as the volunteer coordinator for the Samaritans of Bristol County MA.
