Morgan Sweere

University of Central Arkansas

Morgan's commitment to servant leadership and social justice is clear from her decade of experience leading a tutoring program, her work as an EMT and Red Cross volunteer, and her innovative service thesis project focused on disaster preparedness. As a leader in UCA's Greek community, Morgan spearheaded efforts to expand diversity in Greek organizations and end hazing on campus. As a Presidential Fellow, she represents the university in collaborations with community leaders, and as a UCA Ambassador and an Honors College Ambassador, she is many students' first glimpse into what a UCA student can be.

Personal Statement

I'm excited to be nominated for the Newman Civic Fellowship because from an early age, I've come to truly value social justice, reciprocity, and listening to the distinctive voices that contribute to and enhance our diverse world. At UCA, I have found my passion for actively empowering others to pursue the root causes of social justice through direct and indirect service and community engagement. I desire to be a part of the solution instead of the problem, and I know that a person changes the world through activism. I've been able to develop towards my full potential in various leadership roles within my university and community. For the past several years I've been a servant leader, tutoring at-risk students, promoting diversity in Greek life, implementing a disaster relief plan, volunteering for the Red Cross and Special Olympics, and helping to extend medical care in low-income areas. These service experiences have given me a chance to improve others' lives while gaining an appreciation for the mosaic of diversity within our world.
