Personal Statement

Growing up with as many blessings as I've had, realizing the privileges I've been awarded throughout my life were at times hard to swallow. But in realizing these privileges, I have become distinctly aware of the role I have to play in this world to correct social injustices and imbalances. In this way, political action has become important to me: I've tried to mobilize the campus community through Voter Registration and campaign events after attending the Democratic National Convention. But I'm also looking for solutions locally - some friends and I arranged a Stop Hunger Now campaign on our campus to raise money for our local food pantry. Another friend and I created Good Vibes Only, a yoga and mental health club on campus to help spread positivity. We are looking for ways, as a community, to overcome our own issues in hopes that we can not only correct injustices but create empathy for one another. In these many small ways, I have tried to mobilize positivity and participation - not on my own, but with others - and hope to continue to do so for our campus and community to grow.
