Corinne Tucker

Corinne Tucker, a senior at University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, is a passionate student leader who advocates for social justice in its many forms, and actively seeks long-term solutions for persistent social problems. Over the past four years, Corinne has taken on the role of "leader" both in and out of the classroom on issues of women's equality and education equity. Working with Suncoast Campaign for Grade Level Reading, Corinne developed and shared resources to ensure that all children have the support to reach grade level reading proficiency by third grade. Most recently, Corinne has worked closely with the Age-Friendly Sarasota initiative in a variety of ways, including data collection and analysis, preparing publications, and organizing outreach events. This work is focused on improving the built and social environment of the community in a number of key areas, including housing, transportation, health, and recreation.

Personal Statement

Corinne Tucker, a fourth-year student at University of South Florida Sarasota Manatee, is a student leader active in issues of women's rights and education equity. For the past two years, she has held leadership positions in the American Association of University Women (AAUW)-USFSM, a student organization devoted to championing for social justice and women's equity, on campus and in the community, as well as, working closely with the Suncoast Campaign for Grade Level Reading, a local nonprofit that advocates for children's reading proficiency by third grade, especially children from lower income neighborhoods. She is a valued contributor to their outreach efforts and has become a recognized leader in discussions of women's rights on campus. Corinne is an exceptionally charismatic leader who generates excitement and energy for a wide range of projects. Her potential for bringing about improvements in the quality of life for marginalized populations, and for inspiring others to get involved, is boundless.
