Personal Statement
Stage fright has crippled me for as long as I can remember, but I have never wanted it to rule my life. By allowing me to face it directly, public speaking has empowered me to voice my opinion on important issues.
To help those struggling with public speaking, I established Speak for the Future as a nonprofit dedicated to empowering students, specifically girls, through public speaking and creative, while combating child marriages. I developed a curriculum and taught public speaking and creative writing to over 250 underprivileged students in Adavinekkalam, India to help them overcome their fear and raise awareness about social issues facing the community. After seeing two female students pulled out of the school due to the cost, I created an ongoing scholarship fund to promote girls' education in the village area, raising over $4,000 to allow 17 female students to attend school without burden to their families. This fund also helped build a library in the school.
