Daniela Isaza

Daniela Isaza is an exemplary student leader who is passionate about serving others. An issue of particular concern to her is inclusion and equity, and, in particular, uplifting the Latinx community both on campus and in the community. Her unparalleled commitment to the experience of Latinx students on campus has been evidenced by her work in serving as a mentor to first-generation Latinx students, creating the first Latinx sorority on campus, and assisting faculty and staff in educating Latinx families about their children’s experiences on campus. In the community she has served as a translator for several organizations that help non-native speakers understand and navigate systems. Her goal is to become an immigration and child advocacy attorney with an emphasis on fighting sex and human trafficking over the Mexican American border.

Personal Statement

From a young age my family taught me the importance of being an active person in my community and how it is up to us to create the change that we want to see for generations to come. I have been very active in my community since freshman year of high school, including the last 3 years while a student at USC Upstate. I have been a passionate advocate for Latinx students and families and strive to be a catalyst for inclusion and diversity within the campus community and the community at large. I am majoring in Criminal Justice with minors in Pre-Law, Child Advocacy, and Spanish Interpreting and Translating and plan to earn my master's in social work and juris doctorate through a dual program. My ultimate goal is to become an attorney for immigration and child advocacy with a specialization in sex and human trafficking over the Mexican American border.
