Brandon Reed

Brandon Reed, a second-year student at the University of Maine at Farmington, is a dedicated student advocate and leader that works tirelessly to find new ways of engaging with younger voters to get them excited about politics and local government. His efforts help establish and organize various political clubs that focus on the pressing issues in society. He also supports first-generation students in finding their voice on campus and has significantly promoted self-advocacy and policy change. His work with the National Youth Leadership Training trains scouts and ventures to become leaders both in and out of scouting. His mission has always been to use politics to create informed and engaged individuals who will have the knowledge and skills to become active members of society and passionate leaders of tomorrow.

Personal Statement

My passion for helping others began as a young kid volunteering at a local food bank and soup kitchen with my mother. This experience taught me the value of giving back to my community and the impact it has on others. As I grew up, I translated this in scouting through my work with the National Youth Leadership Training, where I had the opportunity to teach individuals the skills necessary to become strong leaders. As I moved on to college, I knew I wanted to work hard to make a significant impact on my new community. I then became involved in and even started my own political club on campus, I volunteered to speak on self-advocacy for the First-Gen Student Summit, I worked on a local political campaign, and I have even recently decided to run for the local School Board. Through my work, I have focused on using political engagement to foster a new age of informed and excited leaders of tomorrow.
