Tijah Johnson
Seminole State College
Tijah Johnson currently serves as the Seminole State College Student Government Association President. As part of her duties as president, Tijah has participated in many events, including representing Seminole State College at Higher Education Day at the Capitol and state-wide Student Government Congresses. She has been instrumental assisting with the planning, organizing and opening a new Food Pantry and Help Center on our campus this Fall. In March of this year, Tijah was a featured speaker at the “Women in STEM” event on our campus. This important event was designed to encourage young women to consider a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math. Her help with the Food Pantry and The Help Center, a center that provides support to students facing mental health issues, seeking counseling referrals or in need of guidance on their academic careers on campus, has been instrumental in helping our student body as a whole.
Personal Statement
I first became involved in the success of youth and my community by volunteering in a local community organization called Shawnee Youth Coalition (SYC). This coalition allowed me to bring awareness to many different situations and concerns in my community such as hunger and underage drinking. As I got older my passion, determination, and mindset to better my community, whether it was big or small lead me to become involved at my college, Seminole State. I joined the SSC Student Government Association, which is where my heart lead me. I realized and began to understand the economic inequality and how it is a battle for families to provide basic needs that are not met and how the bonds of the relationship of the family suffers as well. Student Government has allowed me to collaborate with our Vice President of Student Affairs to stop food hunger on our campus by providing a food pantry for the students at SSC. My student organization organized, trained, and volunteered numerous amounts of time and effort to provide for our students. As student body president I am an advocate for each student on my campus and to make sure their voices are heard.
