Some of these service programs include volunteering with the City of Altamonte Springs Special Needs Recreation Program, Clean the World, Safe House of Seminole Youth Summit, Clean the World, BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation, and many road clean ups around the Central Florida community. This year, Megan serves as the President of the Honors Ambassador Council as well as a Student Director with the Seminole State Volunteers who coordinate college-wide service projects. Megan is most passionate about maternal maternity rates and in the future would like to create non-profit clinics in the United States and under developed countries to help lower the maternal mortality rates. Meagan’s consistent commitment to civic engagement exceeds the average, devoting her spare time to bettering the community and tackling different issues within the health arena.

Personal Statement

A social issue I obtain a lot of passion towards is maternal mortality rates in the United States. Although the United States is one of the most developed nations globally, it has one of the highest mortality rates for maternal women. Maternity is natural to the female anatomy; therefore, maternal deaths should be at a minimal rate instead of at an all-time high. My approach for addressing root causes of this social issue is by spreading awareness on my campus through the volunteer program and indulging in research. In the future, I would like to create non-profit clinics in the United States and under developed countries to help lower the maternal mortality rates.
