Katherine Hailson will be graduating from Northern Essex Community College this year as a Liberal Arts: Writing major. Katherine has a drive to make the world a better and more equitable place. Fueled by her own experiences of gender discrimination, Katherine has paired civic learning with civic action. During her tenure at NECC, she served as the President of the Contemporary Affairs Club, presiding over club meetings, working with the college's President and Student Government Association, and organizing relevant speakers and field trips. She helped to coordinate the school's first political campaign volunteer fair and serves on NECC's Civic Engagement Advisory Board. Not only has Katherine cultivated her own interests in gender equality and politics, she has expanded the opportunities for other students. Outside NECC, Katherine works to create the change she wants to see in the world by engaging her interest in gender equality. In the summer 2017, she interned as the campaign manager for a city council candidate. Katherine is an exceptional leader and a well-rounded student, balancing multiple jobs while studying. She is a change-maker and public problem-solver. After transferring from NECC, Katherine plans to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, focusing on public policy.
