Daniel Diebold
Northeast Wisconsin Technical College
Daniel Diebold is a first-year student in the Automotive Technology program at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Daniel is dedicated to making life easier for veterans and their families by serving as a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to promote and support better healthcare, education, and resources for veterans and their families. As a veteran of the U.S. Army who has experienced some of the personal struggles that many veterans face, Daniel is uniquely positioned for this civic service.
Daniel is a high-achieving first-generation student who serves as Vice President of NWTC's Student Veterans' Association, working to build funds to help other student veterans attending NWTC. Daniel also leads an effort to collect items for care packages to send to a recently deployed local National Guard Unit. As a member of the DAV Daniel is privileged with the ability to help veterans of all generations and their families, and work with various stakeholders within Brown County to systemically improve the lives of those who have served.
Personal Statement
My story began soon after moving to Wisconsin in 2016 to remain an active part of my daughters' lives. After an accident caused nerve damage to my right leg, The Disabled American Veterans helped me transition from displacement to securing a home to rent. The DAV's mission is to help veterans in need, and I found that I wanted to do the same. I joined the DAV a month later and began volunteering.
As a first-generation College student, it has been my honor to serve as Vice President of NWTC's Student Veterans Association, working to build funds and help other veterans attend college. Since settling in Northeast Wisconsin, I began to wonder how I could use my skills and interests to help others. I thought to myself, "What basic needs do people often need help with?". The answer I found so often was simply getting a vehicle running. After I complete my degree in Automotive Technologies, I want to set up a shop that helps people on limited incomes get their vehicles fixed with manageable assisted payment plans. Another goal is getting other veterans together to fix cars and enjoy the comradery we all miss after military service.
