Asauntae Gordon, a sophomore majoring in business administration with a concentration in management, is a student leader in the University's efforts to build community partners' capacity to improve the academic achievement, persistence, and college readiness of economically disadvantaged secondary and post-secondary students.
Asauntae works closely with middle school students to promote college readiness through the Attollo-Children Deserve a Chance Foundation and mentors incoming college students through an AmeriCorps sponsored Next Steps project. She also serves as a peer-mentor for the University's Pre-Scholars Institute, a summer bridge program. The main focus for each of these programs is to provide resources to encourage college readiness, academic success and persistence.
Asauntae was selected as a co-leader for the University's alternative spring break program and serves as an office assistant in the community service office. She is vice-president of the Footprints Praise Dance Ministry, performing throughout the year for community events to raise funds for nonprofit organizations. She also serves as the treasurer of Bible Campus Ministry, promoting an encouraging environment for others to explore their faith through service.
Asauntae Gordon shows great potential for effective and long-term community engagement by being a campus leader and inspiring others students to serve.
