Monserrat Saucedo

Simpson College

Monserrat Saucedo is a Culver Fellow at Simpson College, where she is double majoring in Criminal Justice and Psychology with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. Her first experience in the world of politics occurred in elementary school, when her entire school did a mock election in 2008. Since then, her passion for policy increased greatly, which allowed her to start a Young Democrats club in high school. At Simpson, she has served on both the voter engagement and programming committees with the Culver Center to encourage more students to be politically aware, especially during elections. Since 2021, she has interned at Iowa’s Department of Human Rights as a Youth Development Specialist, coordinating youth engagement programs. She currently coordinates the Youth Justice Council, which is a subcommittee of the Juvenile Justice Advisory Council that works on ways to improve Iowa's juvenile justice system, through youth-led projects. She has also organized a Mock Congress session and a Legislative Prep Day at the state capitol for the Iowa Youth Congress (IYC) and State of Iowa Youth Advisory Council (SIYAC). Both programs help Iowan youth advocate and enact change within their communities and at the state level for issues affecting youth.
