Rachel Bruns
Saint Joseph's College
Rachel Bruns, a junior at Saint Joseph's College of Maine, is a student leader in sustainability and social justice. She found her passion when interning at the Maine Volunteer Lawyer's Project, a legal aid organization that provides free legal information, assistance, and representation to low income Mainers facing civil legal issues. Rachel is a champion for equity and has worked on projects ranging from domestic violence and workers' rights to participating in a courthouse assistance project. She is currently exploring ways to support migrants both locally and at the US border.
Personal Statement
I have always felt a need to help my community in any way I can, and being in the service of others has been foundational in making me who I am today. After learning of legal inequalities through an intro class in my high school education, I was inspired to dedicate my life to fighting for justice for those in need who are underrepresented. Through the opportunity to be an intern at the Maine Volunteer Lawyer's Project, I was able to start making this dream a reality and became even more energized to pursue this path. I've shared my love for serving the community as a club president on campus, leading our club in doing over 100 hours of community service. In the future, I hope to expand on these passions and help legislatively working towards equal justice.
