Personal Statement

I have dedicated much of my own time and energy to social justice service in the Providence community. Prior to arriving at Providence College I had been actively involved in non-profit organizations in my own community so it was natural to become actively involved with the Feinstein Institute for Public Service and continue my love for service in communities other than my own community. I believe that service is a way to bring social awareness about the needs of various communities. As a Feinstein Community Fellow, I have served more than 120 hours of service to communities that I self-identify with, such as being a first-generation college student and the immigrant community. I was able to work with the Alliance to Mobilize Our Resistance (AMOR) – an organization that is centered around immigration reform. I also served as a college access intern at College Visions in which I helped bridge the gap and anxiety that is dealt with around the college application process for first-generation students. As a result, my passion for service stems from my own privileges of receiving help from others who contributed their time to serve communities that are often misrepresented and marginalized.
