Two full scholarships and two partial scholarships were awarded to Newman Civic Fellows to support participation in the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute’s Leadership and the American Presidency Spring 2017 program.

This year’s scholarship recipients are Amy Blanchette of Bristol Community College (MA), Jonathan Mangrum of Georgia College & State University (GA), Rebekah Bolser of Miami University (OH), and Cecilia Mendez of Baruch College (NY).

Leadership and the American Presidency is a program designed to develop the next generation of citizen leaders, using the unique lens of the American presidency for students to understand their leadership journeys. During the semester, undergraduate students live, learn, and intern in Washington, DC in an immersive experiential learning environment. Students take an accredited history course through which they critically examine the leadership journeys of presidents in relation to their own lives. Students hear from  leaders in the fields of business, government, and the nonprofit sectors learning lessons on leadership, while simultaneously applying all of these skills in the real world in an internship setting and in authentic course assignments. With Washington, DC, as a classroom, presidential sites are leveraged to capitalize upon the power of place, resulting in a meaningful and transformative leadership experience for students.
