Princeton McBride
Charleston Southern UniversityPrinceton majors in both public health and Christian studies and is the Vice President of Student Government Association, a resident assistant, as well as an active participant in the CSU Campus Ministries office through small groups and the student-led worship gathering Elevate which spreads service and love to others. Through his selfless commitment to assisting students visiting CSU to learn English as a second language or his efforts to provide a memorable and safe experience to youth at M-fuge camp over the summer, Princeton exhibits a servant's heart. He also volunteers at the Charleston Star Gospel Mission and Operation Christmas Child.
Princeton is a model of a future civic-minded leader. His future in leadership is bright because he understands the importance of diligently serving others while maintaining a high GPA as a full-time student. We believe that one must be willing to serve before one can lead, and Princeton has certainly demonstrated his commitment to a service philosophy. Princeton is a deserving student model of a Newman Civic Fellow, and Charleston Southern University is proud to recommend him for the Newman Civic Fellowship Award for 2018.
Personal Statement
Volunteering can often be overlooked, but it expresses an internal concern that one has for the community. Volunteering to me is sharing the light God has placed within my heart. In Romans 12:13 Paul says "When God's people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality." This verse truly gives me a desire to want to serve others, not only to make a difference in the world physically but through the power of the Holy Spirit it allows me to help change the world spiritually. Working with students learning English as a second language, as well as being a part of the Star Gospel Mission and Operation Christmas Child sharing the Gospel was my primary focus. The importance of volunteering is helping out the least of thee, which Jesus explains further in Matthew 25:35-40.
