Rose State College

Lindsey Johnson, a second year student at Rose State College, is a member of the President's Leadership Class, student senator, and President of T.E.A.C.H. Club. Lindsey is passionate about children's education and providing opportunities to underprivileged students. Lindsey's dedication, hard work, resilience and determination set her apart from her peers. In the past year, Lindsey has orchestrated several projects serving underprivileged elementary age children in the community. Additionally, she has already shown remarkable ability to network with other students and the community as demonstrated by her efforts in both the Rumble into Reading event and backpack project. Not only is she a leader who finds strength in servanthood, she also has immense potential to enact and inspire change. As a community college student, Lindsey has fully embraced the vision and values of Rose State College to become an educated citizen and give back to the community. Because Lindsey has a heart for students, she believes the power of education can improve their quality of life. This conviction is her driving force to continue her education and work toward a Master's degree in Special Education.

Personal Statement

I am a pre-education major with a passion for teaching and impacting the lives of young children. As a recipient of the President's Leadership Scholarship, an active member in Student Senate, and President of the T.E.A.C.H. Club, I have been provided with many opportunities to change the lives of elementary students in our community. Through T.E.A.C.H. Club I was able to run a book drive for the students at Willow Brook Elementary, as well as a school supply drive that provided 245 students with brand new backpacks and school supplies to start the 2015-2016 school years. Being a member of Student Senate presented me with the opportunity to chair an event that allowed the first graders at Rose State's adopted elementary schools, Telstar and Willow Brook, to venture out from their everyday routine. The students were given the chance to do crafts, meet Rumble the Bison, and select a book from the Rolling Thunder Book Bus. Each event has taught me the importance of community involvement in the lives of underprivileged children. I am thankful for the opportunities I have been provided and plan to continue my community involvement after college.
