Personal Statement

On January 11, 2018 my life was changed forever. One of my closest childhood friends, Devyn, committed suicide. The news of this tragedy completely shattered my heart and from that moment on I decided no one else should ever have to experience this kind of pain. That is why I started my social impact initiative, “Let’s Talk, in hopes to break the stigma surrounding the conversation of mental health and suicide. I volunteer in my local community at elementary schools, nursing homes, and local clubs and organizations where I am able to share my story, educate them on the signs and symptoms, and encourage other people to spread hope by helping other people every day. I am also involved with organizations like the American Foundation for Suicide prevention where I help advocate with policy makers for this national public health crisis. On top of that, I am heavily invested on campus with local philanthropic events through a club that I am currently president of named Civitan’s Club. Our mission is to get college students to engage and donate their time to help make a difference in the community.
