Emily Reed, a junior Social Work Major, is a visible leader on Alvernia's campus, promoting and directing a variety of community engagement activities with other students, including events with impact on early childhood literacy, interfaith dialogue and civic involvement. She has shown both substantive interest and ability in civic engagement, along with a sincere desire to seek long-term solutions for social issues.

Ms. Reed serves as President of Alpha Phi Omega (APO), an international service fraternity at Alvernia, as a student leader for the Alternative Break Program, as an Interfaith leader, has completed a pilgrimage to Assisi, and has participated in each of Alvernia's four annual university-wide Days of Service annually since her freshman year. She works with several programs managed by the Holleran Center for Community Engagement, primarily with the South Reading Youth Initiative and Reading Collegiate Scholars programs, where she is universally acknowledged as a mentor and leader of her fellow students.

Ms. Reed is an accomplished student leader at Alvernia with a passion for Community Service and Civic Engagement. She is among the most respected and admired students on campus, and is very deserving of the prestigious Newman Civic Fellows Award.
