Calvin Wilborn, a sophomore majoring in public administration, demonstrates the values found in a Newman Civic Fellow. Calvin displays his dedication to civic engagement through various campus activities and leadership positions he holds here at Auburn. He currently serves as president of the Auburn College Democrats where he actively works to educate students on the importance of voting. Throughout the school year, he has organized several voter registration drives on campus and works with other political clubs on campus to promote civic activism. In addition, Calvin's commitment to social change is demonstrated through his involvement with the Student Government Association's Lobby Board where he participates in lobbying for higher education funding from the Alabama State Legislature. In the fall of 2015, Calvin participated in an Appalachian Teaching Project focusing on the revitalization of the Tuskegee National Forest. As a community and civic engagement minor, Calvin exemplifies the College of Liberal Arts' mission in that students have an understanding of the human condition, a respect for individual and cultural differences, and a desire for the free exchange of ideas.
