Ashlyn Woods

University of Baltimore

Ashlyn Woods, a third year student at the University of Baltimore, has shown that she is a strong advocate for the interests of our students, through her steadfast service as Senator and Chairperson in our Student Government Association. As a Student Assistant in the UB Campus Pantry, Ashlyn is helping to alleviate hunger on campus by providing food resources for students, staff, faculty, and alumni. She provides outstanding customer service and follow-through to ensure all pantry participants' needs are met. Ashlyn has a strong vision for UB and the greater Baltimore community. She demonstrates her strong values of hard work, determination and leadership skills, through her work with the Movement Team, a nonprofit who through restorative practices, evidence-based strategies, and trauma-informed practices help provide support services and families within the greater Baltimore area. Ashlyn plans to use the skills learned in these areas to further her career goals of becoming an advocate for those in need of legal help and guidance.

Personal Statement

As a kid, I became involved in addressing issues of economic and social inequality by volunteering at the Bea Gaddy Foundation in Baltimore City. As I got older—I was given the opportunity to study law and other related topics in Middle and High School. While enrolled in those programs, I was exposed to different issues in society. As a result of learning so much about how laws and systems operated, a deep passion for helping others and being an advocate for social change grew within me. At the University of Baltimore, I work in the UB Campus Pantry to fight hunger on our campus. I am also a Chairperson in Student Government Association, where I am an active voice for the students when in communication with UB’s Administration. I am currently a volunteer at the Baltimore Community Mediation Center and a member of a non-profit organization called the Movement Team. I will become an attorney to be a vessel for those in need of legal help and guidance, and I will use my skills to spread knowledge to people in my community. I believe that with the proper education and passionate people the world will become a better place.
