Campus Compact is excited to welcome Caity Vogt, our new AmeriCorps VISTA, to our national office.

Caity will hold this position for the next year, and during this time her focus will be on housing insecurity on college campuses. This means Caity will research how housing can serve as a barrier to college access.

Caity graduated from Fordham University in May 2017 with a degree in Psychology. During her time there, she made it a priority to become involved in her community and participated in several civic engagement and service learning programs.

“Initially when I was looking for opportunities to do a year of service following my undergraduate education, I saw that Campus Compact as a nonprofit seemed to really speak to my interests and promote some of the values and the things that I find really important and formative for my own personal growth and what I plan to do with my career,” Caity says.

“One of the other things I really like about Campus Compact is the encouragement for universities to really become part of the communities that they’re in and to engage and not exist in a bubble. This is something that I really valued from my own college experience.”

Caity says she is excited to research housing insecurity policies across the country and explore how these policies affect students, faculty, and staff. She will ultimately consolidate the information she finds into an easily accessible resource for all colleges and universities.

“My hope is that there will be a lot of resources already that colleges and universities offer to students in really difficult financial situations or life situations,” says Caity, “but realistically programs may not exist or be easily accessible for students in need.”

Caity also has an interest in travel and helping people all over the world. While at Fordham University, she was involved with Global Outreach, a student run organization that promotes civic engagement and social justice. Caity traveled with this group to conduct projects in El Salvador and New Orleans, and even led the group’s trip to Tennessee during her senior year. She also completed a service learning project in South Africa through a different program.

“The world can feel so small if you stay in the same place, and I like to feel a little uncomfortable and to see what’s out there,” Caity says.
