Campus Compact is excited to welcome Evelyn Gonzalez, the Newman’s Own Foundation Fellow who will be working with Campus Compact for the next year. During her fellowship, Gonzalez will work on various projects, including Campus Compact’s Newman Civic Fellowship program, fundraising, and grant writing.

“My fellowship at Campus Compact will help me grow and practice the things I’ve learned,” said Gonzalez. “I’m looking forward to opportunities to motivate future student leaders and to work with a variety of community organizations, and to gain experience working in a large national nonprofit.”

Gonzalez is a 2018 graduate of California State University – Fresno, where she majored in sociology and minored in Spanish and urban civic education. In the past year, Gonzalez has also completed an internship at Art of Life Cancer Foundation and served as secretary for the Association for Fundraising Professionals Central Valley Chapter.

As a student, Gonzalez was the recipient of multiple awards recognizing her leadership and dedication to improving her community. In 2015, she was nominated by Joseph Castro, President of California State University – Fresno as the Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow for her campus. About Gonzalez Castro said, “Evelyn is an exceptional young person with a gift for motivating her peers to make lasting changes in our community.” In 2018, she was the recipient of the John D. Welty Award for Community Service for her leadership and dedication to the improvement of the community.

Gonzalez has demonstrated her commitment to public good through her involvement as a volunteer and student leader for numerous organizations, completing over 1,000 hours of service during her time at Fresno State. She was founding president for the Fresno State Food Recovery Network chapter, was part of a team of students from the Humanics at Fresno State’s Students4Giving project, and traveled twice to Fiji and once to Jamaica to serve residents of a rural village. She also spent four years serving as an ambassador for Fresno State’s Jan and Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning.
