Campus Compact is excited to welcome Tiveeda Stovall as the new director of Campus Compact for Virginia.

As director, Stovall will provide leadership for the engagement efforts of member institutions throughout the Commonwealth. Stovall hopes to work to build stronger coalitions of engagement between campus and community entities; encourage campuses to implement place-based initiatives as cradle-to-career champions; and highlight “serving” as a tool to create inclusive and equitable institutions and communities.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to serve Campus Compact for Virginia.” said Stovall. “For almost 18 years, I have seen how the work of Campus Compact can positively transform the lives of students, staff, faculty, and communities for years to come.”

Previously, Stovall worked as a national educational consultant specializing in community connections. Stovall also served for ten years as Executive Director/Founder of eXcel Youth Zone, a statewide nonprofit in California that engaged over 30,000 K-12 youth in service-learning opportunities.

Stovall also has developed curricula and served as a Graduate School instructor at Stevenson University with courses in the Community-Based Education and Learning program. Between 2002 and 2016, she served as an adjunct professor in sociology and psychology, an assistant professor in EOPS and CalWorks, and as a Professor of Practice/Community Fellow at the Mulvaney Center for Community, Advocacy, and Social Action at University of San Diego.

She has over 25 years of experience with children, adolescents, and families in community, nonprofit, and institutional settings conducting workshops and groups around community engagement, service-learning, youth development, inclusive pedagogy, youth participatory action research, social justice curriculum development, deliberative dialogues, and non-profit strategic planning. In 2016, as a co-author with Rob Schumer, she published an article on “Service-Learning and The Future of America and Education.”

She is working on her Ed.D. at Johns Hopkins University in the School of Education and earned her Master’s in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a past recipient of the Youth Award from Colorado Black Women for Political Action and was the recipient of the 2007 Congresswoman Susan Davis Award for an Adult Actively Engaging Students in Service.
