Rahul Bhakta

Rahul Bhakta is a second year Chiropractic student and stand-out student leader. As President of Northwestern Health Science University’s chapter of the Student American Black Chiropractic Association (SABCA), he has led campus programming efforts which foster a sense of belonging for students of color on campus, and has worked to connect with the community at large to open pathways to higher education for marginalized groups in the Twin Cities. Rahul is making an impact in the lives of individuals on and off campus, and working to ensure that our campus is representative of our community, and inclusive of every student who enrolls with us. The Newman Civic Fellowship will support his continued growth as a student, as a leader, and as a healthcare practitioner, and increase his already exceptional capacity for tackling the critical social issues of access to higher education, and equitable healthcare.
Personal Statement
I first became involved in the Student American Black Chiropractic Association (SABCA) as a new graduate school student and wanted to explore different clubs. SABCA, being the only club of diversity on campus piqued my interest, and after the first meeting, I was heavily involved. We did plenty of volunteering opportunities around the Bloomington area and went to conferences and clinics all over the states. After the first year, I was voted in as President and have since been making strides to decrease in gap in patient information on healthcare primarily within Chiropractic. We have also been making strides to increase education among the youth to make sure they know about the profession, along with being able to picture themselves within the profession by showing student doctors of color through different tabling events.
