Kayla Enck

Wilson College

Kayla has a personality that naturally connects her with people. She is understanding, friendly, and always positive. Through these qualities people gravitate to her. As a resident assistant, she has a difficult task of managing a very diverse community of 36 students, but she does this with ease. She recognizes through her empathy skills that her students come from different walks of life and uses her ability to build relationships to connect those students. One of her students said “she’s perfect for the job, she is trustworthy and very understanding.” Kayla sees the impact she can make on people every day and does her best to leave this place a little bit better than she found it. Her approach to addressing the root causes of social issues is quite simple. She brings people together through her personality and she is a role model for us all. Through the relationships she creates, she is able to bring the best out of her peers and they are able to come up with creative solutions to everyday problems. If the collaboration she has built in her floor community is everything it appears, she will do amazing things for our society as a whole.

Personal Statement

I am honored to be nominated for the Newman Civic Fellowship and to be able to represent Wilson and its faculty and staff who have encouraged me to do my best. I have been blessed with a great support system from both my family and from Wilson College. I grew up with strong Christian values; this shaped a lot of my relationships and beliefs. I carried those beliefs with me while serving on mission trips and other service opportunities in my community. Wilson College has presented me with so many incredible opportunities since starting here three years ago, including becoming a Resident Assistant, 2021 class secretary, a writing tutor for the Academic Success Center, a peer teacher to freshman students, and captain of the Hunt Seat Team. I am most proud of helping my peers with academics as well as their personal relationships on campus. All the club and campus responsibilities taught me how to communicate with diverse communities and accomplish large goals in leadership positions. For this, I am extremely grateful, and excited for the next chapter in my life. I will strive to be involved with the community and to maintain my own academic goals.
