Maria Molina is a third-year student at California State University, Fresno pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Biology and hopes to one day serve the Central Valley as a pediatrician. Maria served as an Alternative Spring Break team leader in Spring of 2019, where she and a team of volunteers led a children's STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Camp and painted a mural. Maria also served as a co-director of the 2nd Annual LIFT Conference, which convened student service leaders from across California. Additionally, Maria is a member of the SERVE Committee—a team of student leaders who volunteer their time to engage others in service. In her free time, Maria enjoys volunteering at Valley Children's Hospital and as a literacy tutor in a second-grade classroom.

Personal Statement

Having the opportunity to serve others and to make a positive difference in their life has always brought me great joy and motivated me to continue service. Throughout my experiences, I’ve learned that service comes in many different forms, yet each of them is valuable and worthwhile. One of my first volunteer experiences was with Valley Children’s Hospital, where I’ve been able to provide companionship to children who are struggling with various illnesses, and I now also train new volunteers to do the same. Being able to bring a smile to a child’s face in the midst of difficult circumstances has taught me just how much service can be present in small acts of kindness. I’ve also been involved as a member of the S.E.R.V.E. Committee at California State University, Fresno, where I help to plan and lead various community service events. These events are geared toward providing other students with meaningful service experiences that we hope will inspire them to become more involved! These experiences, along with others, have inspired me to continue thinking of ways to serve others around me and in my community for years to come.
