Welcome, Nicole Springer, New Director of Campus Compact for Michigan
Campus Compact is excited to welcome Nicole Springer as the new director of Campus Compact for Michigan. As director, Nicole will provide leadership for the engagement efforts of member institutions throughout the state, serve as a place-based facilitator of network gatherings, and offer institution-specific technical assistance.
“Campus Compact has been an essential part of my development as a community engaged scholar-practitioner and I am excited to join the Campus Compact team,” said Springer. “The work of Campus Compact is instrumental in providing support that institutions need to further civic engagement in higher education and positively impact the lives of community members, students, faculty, and staff.”
Springer most recently served as the associate director of the Center for Service-Learning and Civic Engagement (CSLCE) at Michigan State University, where she focused on research and evaluation, faculty and curriculum development and contributed to Tools of Engagement, a web-based curriculum on community-engaged learning. As associate director, Springer led the diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts as the center sought to reach a greater population of faculty, staff, and students. She began her work at CSLCE as a graduate assistant and remained with the CSLCE for sixteen years, “growing up” in the field of community-engaged learning.
Nicole is an AmeriCorps VISTA alum, having completed a year of service in Moorhead, MN. She is currently completing her PhD in higher, adult, and lifelong education at Michigan State University. She has previously earned a graduate certificate in teaching and learning and an MA in bioethics, humanities, and society from Michigan State University. She earned her BA from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, where she worked closely with the Office of Student Leadership and Service.
