-President Craig M. McAllaster, Rollins College
In my first year at Rollins College, I discovered Rollins Immersion: Citizens Take Action, a program that exposes students to critical cultural, social, political and structural issues in the community through weekend and weeklong experiences of education, reflection, and action. Through Immersion, I have had the opportunity to travel, learn, and build relationships with incredible individuals both inside and outside of the Rollins community. Despite all this, what I love most about my involvement with Immersion is the ability to provide these experiences that have shaped me personally and professionally to hundreds of members of the Rollins community. Over the past year, I have served as an advisor for Immersion and the Immersion Planning Team, a student-led 10 member executive board, working alongside faculty, staff, and students to create over 20 unique alternative break experiences a year. Listening to the impact Immersions have on participants fuels me to keep making these experiences better. I have no idea of the magnitude my actions and influence may have on others. I know that the influence is there, but influence is not something that can be measured. I can only hope that I am positively making a difference in the lives of others. Everyday, this is what I work for.
