Meagan Schrafft, College of Saint Benedict

Meagan Schrafft, a junior at the College of Saint Benedict, is a student leader committed to addressing issues of health inequality. During her sophomore year, she helped start the on-campus club Global Health Affairs, which organizes a medical mission trip to Honduras each summer. She also inspires and engages her peers in civic engagement through a variety of leadership roles. As a part of the Bonner Leader Scholarship program, Meg participated in various service activities with United Cerebral Palsy of Central Minnesota, Catholic Charities, Casa Guadalupe Multicultural Community, and other organizations. She was appointed to the Bonner Leadership Team in December 2013; in that role, she coordinates social events, welcomes new Bonner Leaders, and develops team bonding activities for Bonner Leaders at the College of Saint Benedict. In May 2014, Meg was selected to represent current Bonner Leaders at a national level. She helps to organize and facilitate national conversations and serves as a liaison between individual colleges and the Bonner Foundation. Meg also coordinates service learning opportunities for students at the College of Saint Benedict as an Academic Coordinator for Service Learning, where she connects college students with 47 non-profit organizations and community partners around central Minnesota.

My service experience begins with the Bonner Leader Program. As part of this program, I serve at the office of Experiential Learning and Community Engagement as an Academic Coordinator for Service-Learning, where I connect college students with non-profits around central Minnesota. Additionally, the Bonner Leader Program serves as a large group about once a month in various capacities. During my first and second year of college, I volunteered at Anna Marie’s Alliance with CSB Campus Ministry, and went on a CSB Campus Ministry Alternative Break Experience to the Twin Cities to serve with the Division of Indian Work and Women of Nations Domestic Abuse Shelter. During my sophomore year, I helped start the on-campus club Global Health Affairs that runs a medical mission trip to Honduras each summer for Bennies and Johnnies. I volunteered about once a month with Community Kitchen programming, and I volunteer monthly at the Joe Town Table Community Meal. I also served as an AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate for CSB Community Kitchen between my sophomore and junior year. As a junior, I am preparing for another Alternative Break Experience with CSB Campus Ministry to the Red Lake Chippewa Reservation, and to continue my service with Community Kitchen’s programming.
