Mark Masse, Nashua Community College
Mark Masse has worked tirelessly on projects such as the Precision Manufacturing Club fundraiser. The club’s first-ever fundraiser of making Christmas ornaments was his idea and he contributed his time, design and hard work to make it happen. Mark did the lion’s share of work in that project as well as producing the engraved leaves and wooden backets for the newly painted Legacy Tree at Nashua Community College. The Legacy Tree is a way individuals and companies can contribute to the Nashua Community College Scholarship Foundation. Leaves can be purchased in $100, $250, and $500 increments and all proceeds go to the NCC Scholarship Foundation. Holloway Motor Cars Mercedes-Benz of Manchester was our matching sponsor last year for the tree and they matched up to $5000 of funds raised from leaf sales at the “Swing into Spring” fundraiser event in April of 2014. He has been an active tutor, helping his classmates and first year students. In addition, he has helped with shop maintenance and repair, most recently saving the College thousands in making needed replacement parts. He has done all this while raising a family, which includes two sons in the Marine Corps, working two jobs, and helping out the Precision Manufacturing program faculty members in many ways. In summary, this former Marine exhibits the spirit of “Gung Ho!” in each of his endeavors here at NCC. He is enthusiastic, service-oriented, extremely hard-working, and will do anything to help a friend in need. Mark has completed all of this service work while also maintaining a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.0.

As a student leader and mentor at the Nashua Community College, I feel honored and privileged to have the opportunity to assist participants of career-retraining programs in becoming successful. Many of the people I assist face extraordinary challenges—challenges that, if not overcome, would disqualify them from their respective programs. I take great comfort in the knowledge that the time and effort I have devoted to this cause has made a difference, not only in the lives of those program participants, but also, in a small way, to the success rate of vocational assistance programs in the Southern New Hampshire; Being a fully-qualified and credentialed, skilled worker has a tremendous effect on one’s quality of life and provides a level of self-sufficiency that permits one to rise above the need for outside assistance. As an added windfall, the people I assist will soon go forth and create their own positive impact on the local manufacturing community. To this end, I enthusiastically come to the aid those in need and continue to endeavor to be a person worthy of emulation.
