Cassie Gartin, Community College of Allegheny County

Over the past two years Cassie volunteered 256 hours in community projects and served as a 6th grade mentor. She is the founder and president of the One Act Service Club; Vice President of Leadership in Alpha Mu Theta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa; Lead Ambassador and Student Coordinator of the Allegheny Campus Ambassador Program and a mathematics peer tutor. As a result of Cassie’s amazing initiative, she received the MVP 2013-2014 award for the One Act Service Club. 
Organizing community outreach events is a passion for Cassie who believes every student should be aware of their social responsibility which will encourage leadership and personal development. Some events included the Highmark Walk for Communities in Schools; serving the homeless at the Lite of Life Mission; community mural painting; fund raising for foster children through Run 4 Forever; assisting the Urban Impact Foundation Ministries. 
Cassie is an active member of Working America and volunteers at the Children’s Museum, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, and at the LDC Church food bank.

A passion for community outreach has a permanent place in my heart and has always inspired me to do my best for myself and those around me. I’ve had the privilege of doing over 250 hours of community service, where I’ve been able to mentor and assist students in their studies. My passion and determination has led me to have the ability to be a leader of a student club with a focus on volunteerism. The leadership skills I’ve obtained has lead me to be revolutionize my schools ambassador program to be more efficient in helping with retention and registration issues. Additionally, my skills have been strengthened by leading educational activates to assist other individuals in building their own personal skills which further helps the community. My hope is that my leadership ability and my skills I’ve mastered will assist me through the remainder of my schooling and to achieve my goal of being a main contributor to the reorganization of the United States education system.
