Andrew Clayton, Stevenson University

Andrew Clayton, a senior Business Administration major at Stevenson University, truly embodies the ethic of service and civic engagement as a student-leader. Andrew joined Stevenson’s Service Corps in fall 2012, and he was instrumental in expanding the club’s outreach and impact when he became president in fall 2013. During his tenure, Andrew has used his strong organizational and interpersonal skills to help facilitate relationships with numerous non-profit community partners, including the Maryland Food Bank, Helping Up Mission, Villa Maria School, Irvine Nature Center, Defenders of Animal Rights, and Relay for Life. In addition, Andrew helped for a partnership with the United Way. Last semester, Service Corps had 136 members volunteer and attend 12 different service events. Andrew was also involved with forming a partnership with the United Way. Under Andrew’s direction, Service Corps will participate in its first Alternative Spring Break. Andrew’s leadership style encourages collaboration and motivates others to make a positive difference in the community. Andrew also serves as the Director of Philanthropy for Stevenson’s Student Government Association and was recognized in Spring 2014 as Outstanding Leader of the Year. Andrew has made service an integral component of his college career and he continues to lead by example.

I have spent my time at Stevenson University engaging in as many service and philanthropic opportunities as possible. When I joined Service Corps, I had a vision to create a broader reach than the 20 members and 4 events we had each year. Today, we have over 100 members volunteering a semester, with 24 service events a year. In addition, we are offering the club’s first ever alternative spring break. Each week, I look forward to the work that we do, and the difference we make in the community. I have also earned the title of Director of Philanthropy with the Student Government Association (SGA). My successful work with SGA has increased our fundraising efforts and our outreach to help benefit multiple organizations, including the Relay for Life. I am also involved with the Mission: I’m Home Club. This is my third year in New Orleans helping to rebuild damaged or destroyed houses that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. I am a civic leader on campus and always look for ways to foster partnerships and increase our impact on the community.
