Meyoka Jones, University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB)
The University of South Carolina Beaufort is proud to nominate Meyoka Jones as our 2014 Newman Civic Fellow. Ms. Jones, a Spring 2014 candidate for a Bachelor Degree in Human Service, has a record of academic success, served in important student leadership roles and provided more than 500 hours of community service. Meyoka has an overall GPA of 3.37, has been on the Dean’s List numerous times and is an active member of the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society which encourages and recognizes scholarship, promotes leadership and fosters improving education through service. She is held in such high esteem by faculty that she is first student ever invited to serve on USCB’s Human Services Degree Program Advisory Board. Community service has been an integral part of Meyoka’s university experience. She has done extensive service learning via internships at these sites: the Bluffton Boys and Girls Club where she worked with children in afterschool and summer programs; the National Healthcare Corporation nursing home in Bluffton where she worked with resident senior citizens; and currently at Hospice Care of the Lowcountry.
