Maria McTighe, Westminster College
Maria is actively involved in a variety of leadership organizations including Fresh Start, Dance Theater, SGA, Student Westminster Admissions Team, Student Alumni Association, Kappa Delta Pi, Lambda Sigma, and Concert Choir(s). Her participation in these groups has allowed her to develop leadership skills, demonstrate commitment, good judgment, and responsible citizenry. As an engaged member of the greater campus community, Maria serves as a Counselor for the Royal Family Kids Camp (RFKC). The RFKC is a national non-profit organization that provides a camp experience for physically, mentally, emotionally, and sexually abused children (ages 7-11). Maria’s commitment is year-round and includes fundraising and promotional efforts necessary to support the tuition free attendance of the campers. Perhaps Maria’s most significant contribution of service relates to addressing the long-term impact and the root causes of women’s issues. As founder of Westminster’s Captivating program, Maria works to bring awareness and action to the physical, psychological, and emotional damage resulting from low self-esteem, self-worth, and body image in college aged women. Maria has consistently been a leader among her peers. She is trustworthy, reliable, and has shown a deep commitment to community-based involvement. She is a leader in civic-engagement issues and is an inspiration to others.
