Marie Matta, Fairfield University

Marie Matta, a junior majoring in political science at Fairfield University, actively motivates her fellow students to engage in their community and work for social change. She is in her second semester as a Service Learning Associate, a program that supports academic service learning on campus. She works closely with a faculty member on an introductory education course, taking 17-21 students weekly to tutor at a local elementary school and leading reflections with those students upon their return. Her commitment to civic engagement has resulted in her current internship with the City of Bridgeport Mayor’s Office, where she uses skills from her coursework and her experience as an Associate to support the Mayor’s Public Relations team. Marie is a Resident Assistant, on the Executive Board of Students for Social Justice, a Writing Center Tutor, and attended an international immersion trip. She is well known across campus for her initiative, leadership, and commitment.
