Marcos Diaz, Nashua Community College
Marcos Diaz was elected to the NCC Student Senate at the end of the academic year 2012-2013. Since that time, he has been organizing a comprehensive community service project, the College’s first 5K road race- “The NCC 5K Brave Run/Walk” to raise money for the Greater Nashua Mental Health Center. Marcos has been an excellent leader in this initiative, bringing together the College, and the community. He feels strongly that mental health services need much more attention, and that these services are instrumental to providing assistance to children and families struggling with all aspects of mental health needs. In addition to undertaking this project, Marcos has continued to move the NCC Student Senate forward with strength, compassion, and an innate sense of Leadership. As a first generation college student and a new Citizen of the United States, Marcos has reached out to Immigration and Naturalization Services to schedule a Citizenship Ceremony on the NCC Campus for next Fall. He also hopes to continue his service by applying to the AmeriCorps/Visa program for next fall. Overall, in my 13 years here, he is one of the strongest leaders I have worked with. He is a natural, and has so many opportunities that await him. He is a member of the PTK Society- the National Honor Society for 2 year colleges, maintaining an impressive 3.7 GPA while working full-time, and engaging the College in multiple service projects. Overall, Marcos is an exceptional leader, and not only has “Talked the talk”, but absolutely “Walks the Walk”. I cannot wait to see what awaits him in his future pursuits!
