Emily Durante, Skidmore College
Emily Durante, a junior at Skidmore College with a double major in Environmental Studies and Geosciences, is directly applying her academic work to important environmental issues, particularly those related to transportation networks. She is known both on the Skidmore campus and in the surrounding community, not only as someone who helps to raise awareness but also as an initiator of projects designed to address environmental problems. On campus, she is a leader who has worked to mobilize and coordinate student environmental organizations, to create an active bike-share program, and to ensure the role of sustainability in the College’s strategic plan. Emily is also involved in the city of Saratoga Springs, where she has been an activist in city programs designed to reduce vehicle emissions and improve sustainable transportation options. Emily is hoping to use her Skidmore education and experience for a career in urban planning with a focus on “sustainable mobility.”
