Allie Buesing, Peru State College
Only a sophomore, Allie Buesing is in her second year as an AmeriCorps Service Scholar, devoting time to improving the health and wellness of elementary-aged children. Allie currently coordinates and provides after-school activities for all elementary schools in Nemaha County, Nebraska, as a student leader of the Children’s Health, Activity and Nutrition Community Engagement (CHANCE) Initiative. In 2013, Allie was selected as Nebraska’s representative for the Youth Serve America National Childhood Awareness Month Ambassador program. On campus, Allie serves as president of Phi Epsilon Kappa (PEK), the campus chapter of the national sport and exercise science fraternity. It is through PEK that she coordinated the class ‘Women’s Only Weights,’ which serves to improve the health and wellness of female employees on campus. Allie also currently serves as historian for the campus chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), a national leadership fraternity. Allie presented the CHANCE Initiative at both state and national PBL Leadership competitions in 2013 in the community service category, receiving first place at both. Allie also serves as a resident advisor and a campus ambassador, providing tours for prospective students and their families.
