Ross Allen, Kansas State University
Ross Allen, a sophomore at Kansas State University, is deeply involved in the development of campus and community service leaders and partners. As a student program coordinator, he understood the challenges of campus and community service partnerships, and engaging committed service leaders. He explored how community and student organizations viewed service work, reviewed reflections and evaluations of service participants, and how service and learning could be integrated into co-curricular service work. This knowledge led to the development of an enhanced service-learning training module, involving community service partners and new service leaders. This new module has led to improved relationships among service partners, the development of new issue-based service opportunities, and enhanced social issues and community learning for service leaders. Ross’ student leadership continues to be an asset for the university as it begins to expand its engagement experiences for undergraduates that recognize the importance of being socially responsible civic leaders.
