Rachel Abendroth, Dartmouth College
Throughout her four years at Dartmouth, Rachel Abendroth ’13 has sustained a deep and committed engagement with the community through service that is a model to her peers. Rachel serves as student director of the Outdoor Leadership Experience Mentoring Program (OLE), which she joined as a mentor in the fall of her freshman year. Through OLE, Dartmouth student volunteers engage middle and high school students in various outdoor activities as a means to develop social skills and build self-esteem. Rachel also volunteers and leads Dartmouth’s Special Olympics Program, a program she has been involved with her entire four years at Dartmouth. Her other service involvement has included leading the North Country Weekend early college awareness program; and volunteering with the ASPIRE playgroup for children with autism, the DREAM Mentoring program, the Students Fighting Hunger weekly community dinners, and the annual Day of Caring. Rachel is also a member and philanthropy chair of the Sigma Delta Sorority. Rachel is a passionate, professional and committed volunteer who has a gift for collaboration and leadership. The level of energy and skill Rachel has invested into making positive change in her community through her service work is truly extraordinary.
