Justin Gawronski, Central Michigan University
Justin Gawronski, a junior at Central Michigan University, is a tremendous leader and advocate who has spearheaded several projects to educate and improve the campus and local community. This past academic year Justin served as President of the Student Government Association (SGA). His administration led a voter registration campaign during the fall, educated registered student organizations about diversity related issues in a strategic planning workshop, and has advocated for legislation to support a Women and Gender Center on campus. He is a co-chair on the Smoke-Free Campus work group, which assesses CMU’s smoking policy by compiling data from a campus-wide survey. In 2011-2012 Justin served as the Diversity Committee Chair for SGA where he authored the legislation that was passed to support gender-neutral housing that now exists at CMU on a case-by-case basis. Justin provides leadership as President of “Spectrum”, a registered student organization that focuses on Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender education and advocacy through showing documentaries and organizing events during Coming Out Week and Pride Week. Justin’s leadership and solution-oriented attitude has had a tremendous impact on the community and he will continue to inspire, motivate, and encourage others to be civically engaged in his future endeavors.
